Green Ilminster invites you to attend a Maytime Bird Walk. This event is timed to coincide with Half-Term, with the aim of encouraging both children and adults to take part.
The Ilminster Rec and Herne Hill have become designated Greenspaces for the purpose of a British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) citizen science project called Birds in Greenspaces. This project lasts throughout April and May this year when everyone is invited to spend 30-60 minutes in their local Greenspace and record all the birds they see or hear. There is a free app available to download onto your phone, but you don’t need to have it to join the walk.
Colin is an enthusiastic amateur birder who will help you to identify all the different species that we encounter during our afternoon walk.
We will be meeting at The Well, next to the main play area (with the wooden barge) at Ilminster Recreation Ground, on Canal Way, TA19 0EY.
Note: To use the Birds in Greenspaces app, you need to sign up for a free MyBTO account. Click the link here to register.

Green Ilminster is pleased to be working with the Ilminster Town Council and The Minster Church to organise the showing of this brand new film. It is aimed at enhancing public awareness of climate and environmental risks. The film was produced by the National Emergency Briefing team, and highlights how local groups across the UK are organising events to raise awareness, foster dialogue and encourage collective engagement with resilience challenges.
As Chris Packham says: ‘We are in the thick of a crisis’, and we are not prepared.
