- Share & Repair Shop – Started in Feb 2022 in Silver Street, we have a team of shop volunteers and repairers working to stop things going unnecessarily to landfill, offering a repair service for items such as vacuum cleaners, lamps, clothes, lawn mowers, musical boxes, irons, power tools, etc. We also accept items as donations to sell at the shop with the aim of becoming self-sustaining, and finally we are aiming to stock items for local people to borrow. We want to make the most of the emerging ‘circular economy’ to benefit us all.
- Tree Group – A key activity that has been running since 2019. So far, the Tree Team have planted over 3000 trees in and around Ilminster and given away many more with the help of local businesses during 2022.
- River Isle Water Testing – The health of our rivers is a hot topic nowadays and at Green Ilminster we’ve been looking at ways in which we can make a difference. We’ve decided to team up with Westcountry Rivers Trust (WRT) to monitor the water of our local River Isle. WRT call it Citizen Science Investigations (or CSI) and we will be joining volunteers across the southwest, adding out data to create a meaningful and valuable picture of our rivers’ health.
We plan on having a team of people sampling and testing water, on a monthly basis, at a number of crucial sites on the Isle from Combe St Nicholas to Puckington. Testing kits are provided and along with a narrative description, we will be recording temperature, phosphate levels, and the water’s turbidity and dissolved solids level. The results will be input by the volunteers directly into the WRT database.
