Green Ilminster Talk next Wednesday – “Communication in Birds”

Dear

A reminder of our GI Talks programme for this autumn/winter:

21st Oct – Dr Colin Ryall – ‘Communication in Birds’

Birdsong is the most familiar form of communication between birds, but they also employ other approaches including displaying specialised plumage accompanied by complex sounds, movements and sometimes display flights. This talk will discuss the varied types of audible and visual communication, illustrated by UK and European examples but also some from further afield. Colin is a retired university lecturer and researcher in environmental management.

18th Nov – Dr Sue Holland ‘Growing Resilience: Food Security and the role of Agroforestry

With wetter winters and drought-like summers, this talk and discussion will look at a way to increase food security whilst also improving biodiversity. Sue is a botanist and ecologist who has started a Food Forest near Honiton.

20th Jan – Sam Fisher from Suez – ‘How our waste is recycled’

We’ve all wondered what exactly happens to our rubbish once it has been collected and Sam from Suez Recycling and Recovery UK is here to let us know.

17th Feb – to be confirmed

24th Mar – John Richardson & Chris Bestley – ‘All about Renewables’.

John spent a career in renewables and has put together a great summary of the current options available to us to take full advantage of green energy technology. Presented with a little help from me.

21st Apr – to be confirmed

If you missed Rob Grimmond’s great talk on Moths last month, you can catch it on our YouTube channel here and as the details of the talks are confirmed we will update the events section of the GI website, which you can access here.

The Venue (as ever): Ilminster Arts Centre, 35 East St, Ilminster TA19 0AN. Talk starts 7.30pm. Entry is free, but donations are welcome.

Kind regards

Chris
