Spring is truly bursting into life, and Green Ilminster is as busy as ever!
We are always working hard ‘behind the scenes’ forging relationships in our community and pursuing opportunities wherever we can, aiming to make positive change for our environment.
There has been much in the news recently about the terrible state of our rivers, in response to this Green Ilminster have been spending time with other local groups researching the best way we can help here in Ilminster. We are looking to start some monitoring of the River Iles (aka Isle) water quality very soon and will be looking for volunteers for this vital citizen science project very soon.
Hopefully you are seeing more of our Litter Campaign posters(designed by one of our Board members Haz John-Taylor) popping up around the town. Litter is so frustratingly difficult to combat but we will keep plugging away with our regular Community litter picks and doing our best to change the hearts and minds of those who still leave rubbish behind!
The Tree project continue to work tirelessly towards their goal of 7000 trees – they are half way there! The summer volunteering sessions are all about maintenance; all the trees that go in the ground need some level of looking after for the first 2 or 3 years of their lives, so maintenance work is vital. It’s always such a lovely way to spend a few hours so if you haven’t joined the group on one of their volunteer days please do come along! You can volunteer here.
The Share & Repair Project will be supporting the ‘Big Fix’ throughout the month of May, a national initiative promoting community repair projects. We have some fantastic volunteer repairers who will be getting together to celebrate during ‘Big Fix’ Month, collaborating on some repairs and enjoying a bit of social time.
The project is also working towards its next ‘Share’ event which will be a sewing workshop on 3rd June. Keep an eye on the website and social media for more news on this event soon.
And finally – don’t miss this week’s fundraising quiz on 10th May and here’s an early ‘heads-up’ that all are welcome to join our Green Ilminster’s social event ‘Green Drinks’ which will be on 6th June – more details here.
